Keeping Momentum: Al Baghdadi (IS) reach the Mediterranean Sea and expands into Lybia.

Abu Bakr al Baghdadi is seen by many Salafists (outside of Saudi Arabia, for now) as the legitimate ruler of Islam in region. Seeing the world through the lenses of the VII Century, Salafists following ISIS look at the world as the same battlefield that Muslims faced in early Islamic period. That is why al Baghdadi and his “Islamic State” puts into question the legitimacy of all Muslim States that are not following “sharia law”.  Many thousands of Salafists that follow al Baghdadi feel now that they are obligated to rebel against the “wrong rulers”.

And the worst case scenario is starting to occur: al Baghdadi is sending some of his foreign fighters back to were they originally belong. That is happening in the City of Serna in Eastern Lybia, which is now totally under control of ISIS fighters. Abu Bakr al Baghdadi named an Emir there, and also send one of his top military commanders. Next is Tobruk and the Lybian Parliament.

Another consequence of the expansion of ISIS is the weakening of the influence of Al Qaeda in the Maghreb.
