Syrian war is a recruiting goldmine for ISIL (“Islamic Caliphate”).
Middle East Security News.- Route of foreign terrorist fighters to Syria.
Over twelve thousand fighters from at least 81 countries have joined the war in Syria, and fighters numbers continue to grow.
Around 2,500 are from members of the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. There are also several hundred from the Muslim regions of Russia.
But around ten thousand are from the Arab World. The majority of the foreign fighters are acting against the Syrian Government, but a few hundreds of them support the Assad regime.
Most part are young, even teenagers. From the West, a fair percentage of those arriving are converts to Islam. Asked why, the most part of the foreign Jihadis say that their motivation is to protect fellow Muslims from attack.
There is a concern at what these young men – and some women – will do once they leave Syria, if they leave while fighting for ISIL.
