The Muslim Brotherhood MB has been designated as a terrorist organization by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,  the Interior Ministry said in a statement published by state media. This is a strategic move by the Saudis that strengthen Egypt´s military in power, and also increases pressure on Qatar who is backing the MB.  In an unexpected decision ,  the United Arab Emirates (UAE) , Bahrain and Saudi Arabia recalled their ambassadors from Qatar on Wednesday, saying Doha had interfered in their countries by supporting the MB.

The Arab Kingdom has also designated as terrorist the pro al -Qaeda groups Nusra Front and the ISIL -Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant- , whose fighters are battling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and ISIL is also battling the government of Iraq.

Saudi Arabia also said that it would jail for between 3 and 20 years any Saudi citizen found guilty of fighting in conflicts abroad, such as the one in Syria or in Iraq.

The Kingdom is worried by the Saudi citizens that fought in Iraq and Afganistan, and went back to Saudi Arabia, hardened by battle against U.S. and western forces. Currently the Saudi Interior Ministry estimates that around 1,200 Saudis have gone to Syria. The Saudis also dislike the fact that Qatar  has sheltered influential cleric Yusuf Qaradawi, a critic of the Saudi Kingdom, and given him regular airtime on its pan-Arab satellite channel Al Jazeera.

The Interior Ministry of Saudi Arabia also listed as terrorist Yemen’s Shi’ite Houthi movement , a radical Shi’ite group in Saudi Arabia’s eastern province which Saudi authorities say is linked to Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah.
