Uprising, Sirian Businessmen wants to stay on the fence, but it is a ´Mission Imposible´.

The latest moves by the United States US, the European Union EU and others have been unprecedented in targeting Syrian oil exports and publicly naming dozens of Sirian business figures whom the EU calls “providers of economic support to the Syrian regime”.

More than 100 Syrians and 38 organisations have been added to EU sanctions lists, freezing the assets of private companies and individuals and banning travel to European countries.

All of the businessmen added to the list have denied that they provide economic support to the regime, and many have expressed shock at finding themselves under sanctions.

For many business figures in Siria, the task is simply to keep going in tough economic conditions characterised by a collapsing economy, increasing international isolation and huge currency fluctuations. Since the uprising began, the Syrian Pound has lost around 70 percent of its value.

Syrian businessmen are taking large losses. Most rely on payment in installments when they sell their goods, so the dropping value of the Syrian currency affects them severely. These hardships are exposing fractures between businessmen and the regime.READ MORE HERE
